Amazon founder Jeff Bezos becomes first person to be worth $200 billion

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest man, on Wednesday became the first ever person in history to amass a fortune of $200 billion. He crossed the milestone yesterday after a sharp rally in US technology stocks.

According to Forbes, the the 56-year-old’s exact net worth on Wednesday was actually a staggering $204.6 billion.

Bezos is the founder and CEO of Amazon, which is one of the few companies to have benefited from the coronavirus pandemic.

Bezos is now worth nearly $90billion more than the world’s second-richest person, Bill Gates, who’s currently worth $116.1 billion. The Microsoft founder, 64, was the first person to be worth $100 billion.

The value comes amid an increase in Amazon’s stocks by 2.85%, meaning the company is now worth more than $1.7 trillion (£1.29 billion).

While $200 billion is an unbelievable amount of money, estimates suggest that Bezos’ earnings could skyrocket in the coming years, and could even make him a trillionaire in just six years.

A recent study by Comparisun indicates that Bezos could become the world’s first trillionaire by 2026.

In the study, Comparisun analysed market capitalisation of the 25 highest valued companies on the New York Stock Exchange, and the net worth of the world’s 25 wealthiest people over the last five years.

They then calculated the average yearly percentage growth, applying that growth rate for future years to come.

The findings suggest that Bezos could be worth $1,000,000,000,000 in just six years.
