A 28-year old mother, who was allegedly suffering from post-partum depression, killed her three daughters inside their residence in Basud town in Camarines Norte, Philippines, on Wednesday morning.
Police Major Malu Calubaquib, spokesperson of Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) said that the suspect identified as Joan Magistrado, 28, killed her three young daughters by hacking them with a bolo.
Calubaquib identified the victims as Mitzuki, 5; Zuyen, 1-year-old and 8 months; and Zoe, a four-month old baby.
After hacking the three victims, the suspect also stabbed herself, Calubaquib said.
Police said that “the mother admitted to the crime thinking she was infected with the deadly Covid-19.”
The victims and the suspect were immediately brought to Camarines Norte Provincial Hospital in Daet town, Camarines Norte for medical treatment, but the three girls were declared dead on-arrival by the attending physician.
The husband of the suspect and her other relatives are very determined to press charges against her.
Three counts of parricide were filed by the Philippine National Police against the mother.
Magistrado was still undergoing medical treatment.
